Art is communication. You might say I am interested in the emotional side of Art because connecting with people in a very hectic world is quite a challenge and quite rewarding. With my oil paintings, I have tried to achieve this in different ways at different times. From an illustrative standpoint, I like focusing on a theme: the homeless person, perhaps a dejected individual, the wonderment of a child, a forgotten path or what it would be like to be a confidante of Van Gogh’s.
Since color affects mood, using this tool effectively has always been a primary concern of mine in the construction of my oil paintings, in addition to a well laid-out composition. Currently I am taking more risks with color, leaning towards very bold dramatic color because it can be invigorating and uplifting to the spirit.
My goal is to connect with the viewer because Art is communication. My job as an artist reaches its highest aim when I am successful at this.
